Massage is very effective in treatments of:

Elimination of post exercise muscle soreness and strain:
Delayed muscle soreness is muscular discomfort occurring 24-48 hours following exercise. This condition happens mostly with people that have not exercised for period of time. It also happens with trained athletes during transition of training periods or with introduction of new training intensity or drills.

Recovery following training:
Massage is the treatment of choice in elimination of metabolic waste and inflammatory exudates that are present in blood and tissue following athletic activity. Massage increases lymph flow and restores blood circulation. It breaks the “pain-tension cycle” that involves lack of oxygen in tissue. It reflexively decreases muscle spasm. Stretching tensed muscle results in relaxation and restored joint mobility.

Sports injuries sustained during activity (sprains, strains, dislocation, fracture):
Massage accelerates the removal of inflammatory by-products and improves the delivery of oxygen and nutrients into the cells. By increasing circulation and lymphatic flow, it decreases edema. Special techniques aid in decreasing adhesions that are the result of inflammation and that may restrict joint mobility. Massage conditions skin following removal of cast and through circulatory effect it enhances healing process.

Sports injuries sustained during training overuse (shin splints, tendonitis):
These injuries are chronic, caused by overuse. Because of the poor blood circulation to the affected tendinous attachment, healing takes longer time. Massage can accelerate healing by increased blood flow to the area. It decreases adhesions due to inflammation and helps to restore joint biomechanics. It decreases scar formation.
